BURLINGTON, Ont. – Another impressive regular season is in the books for the McMaster Marauders men’s volleyball team and with just one match remaining in the 2022-23 OUA campaign.
The Marauders finished the season with an 18-2 record and have constantly been a national threat all season long.
With the Forsyth Cup right around the corner, McMaster remains focused on this weekend’s contest, but four Marauders received OUA accolades on Tuesday for their performances this season.
Senior outside hitter, Mateusz Wlodarski, has been recognized as the 2022-23 winner of the OUA Dale Iwanoczko Award of Merit. Wlodarski was also announced as a First Team All-Star while Benjamin Kerkhoff, Tyler Pavelic and Wojciech Kraj received Second Team All-Star honours.
A fifth-year outside hitter, Mateusz Wlodarski recorded 136 kills in his final varsity season, averaging 2.27 kills per set. Recording 21 solo blocks, the Masters student ranked 6th in the conference. He also ranked in the Top 10 in both total service aces (22) and service aces per set (0.37).
Academically, Wlodarksi is a published scientific author and earned his BSc in Biochemistry summa cum laude, the highest distinction attainable at McMaster. The Ottawa local was awarded a summer research grant and is the first-ever McMaster student-athlete to be accepted into the MSc Biochemistry program.
Outside of his academic and athletic commitments, Wlodarski tries to give back to his community. He tutors new lab members and teaches them how to code while also actively participating in team community outreach events like Movember. Outside of that, the graduate student officiates local volleyball tournaments as a volunteer and participates in the organization and implementation of various McMaster Students Union events.
